Richard Zana was born in Tarentum, PA on August 6, 1940 and graduated in 1958 from Leechburg High School. He received his B.S. in
Music Education in 1962 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his Masters in Music Education in 1964 from Duquesne University.
Mr. Zana passed away on July 13, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.
He taught music in the Ambridge Area School District for 38 years both as a choir and band director and retired in 2000. Mr. Zana was
the founder of the Ambridge Area High School Steel Drum program, which continues to this day. A member of the barbershop chorus, King
Beaver Barbershoppers, he also sang in a quartet. Additionally, Mr. Zana directed and coached the Sweet Adeline’s.
