Jimmy Ross

Jimmie Ross - Baritone Tenor/ Lead Vocals

After graduating from Hopewell High School in 1964, he attended The Dana School of Music in Youngstown OH, and became a member of a rhythm and blues band where he performed as the featured singer as well as playing bass guitar. 

In 1966 Jimmie was asked to audition for and became a part of an up and coming group called the Jaggerz.  In 1968 Gamble Records of Philadelphia, signed the band to their first recording contract.  Their first album “Introducing the Jaggerz” spawned their first 2 regional hits, “Baby I Love You” and “Gotta Find a Way Back Home”.  In 1970, the band signed with Buddah Records in New York.  From their second album “We Went to Different Schools Together”, came the #1 hit song, “The Rapper” which was played on every top 40 station in America.  The “Boys from Beaver County” received their Gold Record for selling over 2.5 million copies of “The Rapper“, which they performed on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.   The Jaggerz have recorded 6 albums and 11 singles, including one with legendary radio personality, the late Wolfman Jack.

Jimmie’s further musical career includes over 100 radio jingles. He produced Bobby Rydell and James (Moondoggie) Darren as part of the Sixuvus Revival Music Company. He performed with The Skyliners from 1975-1980; Signed a recording contract with MCA Records as the duo Cooper and Ross.  Their song “It’s Gonna Take a Miracle/I’m on the Outside Looking In” from their “Bottom Line” album was reviewed in People Magazine.  He has performed and toured with the Beach Boys, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Bobby Goldsboro and many other well known musicians.  He has also performed at venues in Nashville, New York’s Madison Square Garden, the world-famous “Copacabana“, “Trump Marina” and “Harrah’s” in Atlantic City.

One of his most memorable performances was singing the National Anthem at Heinz Field before a Steelers/Cowboys game in 2003 and at The Pirates opening day  at PNC Park in 2005.

Jimmie is the proud recipient of a key to the city for his contribution to the entertainment world and the attention he has brought to his native Aliquippa.  He has also served as the co-host along with 3ws Radio Personalities R.D. Summers and Mike Frazer for the “Roots of Rock and Roll” in March, 2008 & 2009 at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh PA. 

The Jaggerz are featured in a permanent exhibit, “All Fun and Games: Pennsylvania at  Play”, at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.  Included in the exhibit is a band outfit from the late 1960’s and early film footage of the groups performances at the former Club Naturale in Beaver Falls.  Jimmie has been featured in articles in “People Magazine“, “They Came to Play”, “Celebrate the 70’s”, “Escort Magazine”, “Cigar Lifestyles”, and “In-Tyme Magazine”.  In 2009, RAP star, “The Game” used a sample of a Jaggerz song from their first album - his song “Letters to the King” sold 200,000 copies in the second week of its release.

In 2014 he was honored by his alma mater Hopewell High School for their Artist in

Residence Program.

2015 Jimmie was inducted to the Beaver Valley Musician's Hall of Fame.

Also, in 2016 he has been nominated for the Pittsburgh Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.
